As thousands gathered to attend George Floyd’s funeral on Tuesday, the Texas Southern University (The Houston School) has announced that they will grant George’s daughter a full scholarship to their varsity. This announcement was made by the TSU in a press release on their website as well as on their social media platforms.
Talking on ‘creating an educational pathway for his daughter’, the Board of Regents of TSU revealed that they had ‘approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna, if she wishes to attend the University’.
Mr. Floyd was an honored citizen of the Third Ward and a revered graduate of the Jack Yates High School.The board added the scholarship was a way for them to ‘honor the memory of George Floyd on the day that he is laid to eternal rest’. They also acknowledged that this gesture is not going to take the place of her dad’s ‘loving presence’ but they hope that this will at least ‘ensure that Gianna has a secure future’.

Resolution Issued By The TSU
Aside from the privately funded scholarship, the Texas Southern University has also submitted a resolution to the Floyd family ‘in recognition of the Third Ward community member’. This resolution was to honor Mr. Floyd’s “exceptional life of dedication”.
The resolution read;
“[Floyd] will be remembered as both a leader and a mentor, a colleague and a friend, as well as a major inspiration to change the world through endless pursuit of justice. Be it therefore resolved that we send prayers to the maker and creator of all mankind for the comfort of George Floyd’s loved ones that he provide them with strength to hold them, grace to sustain them, and love to carry them.”
